Week1st
– 3rdJuly
Hi again!
We started July
finishing talking about health and illnesses.
·
Remember that we use “To have (or to
have got) a/an ----ache” with
Headache – toothache – earache –
backache and stomachache
·
When other parts of our body ache, we use:
To have a pain in _________ or my ________ hurts / aches.
I have a pain in my arm or
my leg hurts.
Remember to use
possessive adjectives with parts of the body.
You can
have a pain in your neck.
But somebody can be a
pain in the neck! , (or in another part of our anatomy which
sounds less polite!) when they are really annoying!
·
We can also:
Have a cold / have a temperature / have a cough and sneeze.
When
we have the flu,
we usually have a temperature and all our body aches!
When
we have a
cold, we usually cough and sneeze!
·
Some people have problems for many years:
He has hay-fever
every summer, from flowers and grass. He sneezes all
day.
Her little brother has asthma;
sometimes he can’t breathe.
·
There are illnesses you get in hot or
tropical countries:
Mosquitoes
can give people malaria.
When the
drinking water is bad, people can have cholera.
·
There are also serious illnesses:
Cancer
kills
many people every year all over the world.
Di Stefano,
the famous footballer, died of a heart attack
yesterday.
We read an
interesting text entitled ‘The Rainforest Children’
It is about a plant scientific
that lives in the rainforest with
three of his four children. His fourth child lives in London with his mother.
His children don’t go to school, he teaches them himself. They live in a group
of tents. They use a van to go from tent to tent because
there are wild animals and it’s
dangerous. When the children’s friends come to visit they feel like living an adventure!
And we finished the week listening to a radio
programme where people phone in asking for
advice.
People phone to the programme and they tell their
problems and ask
for help.
·
What should Barbara do about her jealousy problem?
·
What should Kevin do about his tight-fisted (mean) friend?
·
Should
Catherine
stop
lending
her clothes to her roommate?
We’ll find it out (discover)
this week!
See you!
